I did a degree on this style,"Music Concret",AKA John Cage - Wow - I have listened to some of that stuff, but I tend to try and let the sounds lead me where they will.

Heaven high then tumbling earthwards...: It's some of that classic slide guitar wailing [which begins with brother Duane], but monstered and recontextualised
Massive mass of sound here: There's two guitars, the slide and the fuzz interjection on the fretless guitar, and then the Volca bass and a drum machine. Rather than add more parts I sought to make those four elements more massive in and of themselves
This is boogie in savage, pulsing, brutal glory - I think I recaptured some brutal savagery on this one

that's some real demolition derby stuff: slide guitar [Indie semi with P90 type pups and wraparound bridge] played with total manic abandon, as in a violent trance, leading to bleeding fingers
groovin': drum machine paired with Volca - it's the lack of sync which helps the groove
The bubbling background almost leads me to of all things old-school Duran Duran. Ah! The time is right for some Durani revisionism and reappraisal! The bubbling is some Volca Bass random knob twiddling

Yea, their bass player is a monster. The early keyboard stuff is amazing as well, "Life Boat" on OGWT in '79 is probably my favorite of that.

Actually, because you mentioned him I went searching for some of his albums - there are hundreds of course! I bought one - interesting that he's putting metal shred guitar into different contexts. Context is something else - 'the out of context guitar solo' was a favourite trope of critics in bygone days. I think it derived from the practice of blues players putting blues solos on non-blues stuff. I suppose some of Clapton's solos on Cream's non-blues songs started it. I think Chris Spedding did the same for putting rock solos in jazz in his early days.
Yea, he's quite interesting for the "put it in perspective" or make it work in almost any situation. He even pops up on the last Guns and Roses album on a few songs and you can tell immediately it's him but it's not out of place.
