about

During a sleepless period, Jonathan Beckenstein tells us that he laid down two instrumental guitar tracks he entitled Sleep Deprivation, 1 & 2.
While this was the circumstances of the creation of these tracks, their inspiration was what Jonathan called a certain kind of "dream time" - perhaps those disturbed dreams that only sleeplessness can provide us with.
With that in mind, I added some of my own sounds to his two tracks, running them side by side, with a Boethiusian freak out in the middle of them. The result being this collaborative track, Dream Time

Jonathan's notes to the original tracks:

Two hours sleep, five guitar tracks, sequentially improvised and overdubbed. Been reading a lot of Murakami while not sleeping. He always has these hotels… They are animate things, as well as commercial structures, and they exist both in reality and also in some kind of dream time. Inexplicable and disquieting things tend to happen in them, things which nonetheless have their own logic and compelling meaning. It's creepy, I tell you.
