hyperyesss!

bass sounds sweet
- there two basses on this as you can probably tell - this melodic one with wah and another harder Chris Squire type sounding one during the heavier passages

What an intro Brother Bill...a real killer.....
: I wanted to get heavy on this one ...

Such tones not only evoke gods, spirits of all sorts will follow for days...
melancholic grins, savage to be sure!:
sparklers stabbing at the moon
Crisp twisting churning lava reeds!
... well put into language - ... if only I could feel these sounds were mine, and that I could take credit ... but I just played the instruments and carved their resonances ... a month later the piece looks back at me fiercely, like a son I never knew I had ... these sounds are always orphans ... because they belong to the gods, not us

A powerful descent into deep recesses of the mind..skillfully created
Yes ... you have guessed that it wasn't just a jam on Samhain [as I deceitfully tried to present it]. It was a piece I had agonised over, and wasn't going to put out at first. Nick, I long for a metal that has the freedom of jazz ... or a jazz that has the mindlessness of metal ... I value mindlessness much more than mindfulness ... that's probably how one gets to the deep recesses of the mind ... by disowning the mind ... the orphaned mind ... I listened to Sabbath, Pentagram and Saint Vitus to get atuned to that mindlessness ... it was a scary descent .... a rite of passage for me ...

Intense, unnerving and elemental,
- a strange one this - I put down the heavy guitar and got a storming sound, but wasn't happy with it in the mix. I began to despair that I would never get a decent metal sound. I then listened to the Master of Reality album, and came back to this and was blown away by it. The twang and grind of the bass, the manical guitar and thundering drums. It actually disturbed me, especially when I added the voices. I actually had to disown the track before I could get it out, like an exorcism ... and it was Halloween. I became an admirer of Iommi at that moment too. Glad you used the word 'elemental' - love Bolan's song Elemental Child for its dark poetry ... torch girl of the marshes ... yes this track has some kinship there too
Sabbath is a great mindlessness inducer. .completely with you..raw, brutal and free. Iommi is superhuman!

a merman i should turn to be
- ah yes, of course ... 1983 ... I think that is one of Jimi's finest pieces ... it's a touchstone for me ... I can think of nothing higher in world art ... but Jimi was beyond this world ... a god that briefly walked the earth ... I can't even comprehend his genius ... I tremble before him ... this piece of mine here is something quite evil ... I only expect a few to like it ... it is the most dreadfilled thing that just exploded on Samhain ... its basically guitar bass and drums with voice ... the classic three piece which to me is the very root of 'our' music, we who know that the Experience created at the very zenith ... that Cream exploded new pathways and stirred new cauldrons ....

in a dank tunnel
: yes, again, the circular confining whole, hole ... cavernous wombs of becoming ... a tunnel can be oppressive ... but it leads ... somewhere ... we have to crawl through them, in utter terror ... to get to that place ... to live

:i hear a cauldron: yes, with centrifugal swirl, churning all kinds of froth, bat wings and unmentionables - a vortex - the very churning of creation - you are hearing the creation of worlds here ... it isn't always pretty

Amazing trip once again !!!
- I wanted to get the brutal aspects of the trip down - it is not all psychedelic lights - there is also the hard, masculine iron handed side of things ... men don't like to reflect on these things now, and are ashamed of them .. but here I have all the bodily functions on show as I rage through this trip, tricking out the blood red staves!
!

lyrics

Bloodied stave driven through
The undead heart.
Sentinel staves to imprison
The living killer.

Staves of sounds to evoke
The ancient gods
Rune staves cut into wood
And into Metal.
