thanks for the tickets (to the thickets)
no other way to get there
mesmerizing
this track still amazes
Love the dying synth splat : Guitar through the trusty Korg, dragged out and thrown down the furry stairs
Love the sense of space and depth, soundstage is beautiful in itself.
.
the cast of characters among these sounds is fabulous.
- I am becoming conscious of the need to imbue individual sounds with as much character as possible so that they becomes actors within the piece. The guitars themselves become personified too and are used like actors acting to type or sometimes against type. The guitars here are most to type with the Ibanez [Red Mist] delivering the full rich lead sounds, and the Squier Strat [Bullet Burst] giving all those twangs and chirps.
those programatic nature sounds are fantastic. i'm not entirely certain if you are producing them or not, but i'm guessing you are: there's some cheating there - the bird calls are from sound files, although I've bent them towards my own purposes, so they have some parity to my guitar sounds ... t I became taken with how close bird tweets are to Strat twangs, and wolf howls are to string bends; and that old technique of double bends done on a dark humbucker at distortion sounds a lot like a crow's call. And, beside the human voice, the voice of these birds and beats is our best tutor for guitar playing. There was a large element of accident and discovery with these field sounds - the Floyd did a lot of that too
great use of space - there's always more Space than we think - everywhere
Luscious watercolors scratching the oil beneath! Amazing work as usual! Time for VINYL Bill !!!: right! - a whole palimpsest of plastic, aluminium, vinyl, shellac, china, goatskin et al as we dig down ever deeper and build ever higher
dancing among the papyrus !
: Dionysos was in Egypt first .... but I want to find out where he was before that and that .... for that is where he is now
Such amazing color!: here I'm starting to get detail onto every sound, rather than using a myriad of sounds to get detail
one of your best. - it hearks back to the tracks on my first album which Droning Earth so magically put together, but adds everything I have learnt about sound since then.
The title is from the Jim Morrison poem, New creatures - the images from that poem are burned into my mind's eye - I'm glad to put them into sounds here: although the poem here is my own I hasten to adds: the phrase "pteradactyl beaks adorn" is lifted from Tyranosauros Rex, I can hear Marc singing it now - such things sustain me
beams you up to some place far far away.: yeah - it's pretty strange to be suddenly transported like that, and can be slightly scary ... it was Agitation Phi kindly saying somewhere that my guitar sounded "like a bird" which inspired this one ... she made such a profound compliment there, as I shared to her, saying that Beefheart's ten commandments of guitar included learn from the birds, and I always have. It was Robert Furtkamp who brought those commandments to my Door. And so I put some bird sounds on here to show how close the guitar and bird song is.
: There is also some wolf howl sounds added, as well as crows and other birds. The humbucker pickup is very crow like. I deeply respect the crow and raven as an odinist, of course. The single coil sound just twitters and tweets. And all kinds of vibrato is wolf like. Wolf, bear, raven ... hierogylphics too: the phat sounding humbucker guitar is my Ibanez I call Red Mist, and the twangy single coil guitar is a Squire Strat I call Bullet Burst.
lyrics
Nile Insect Air
Foraging Venusian vales of vegetation
We follow the perimeter down and around
Enwraping lush scenes, sounds, and unsighted suns,
As our sagging sails come to wired walls, and wainscoted walkways.
We tread upon buried mountains, and live beneath unrisen peaks,
As pteradactyl beaks adorn our magician queen honouring fountains,
In the blinding heat.
