about

Another of my word pieces set to my sounds ... most of the words did not survive into the final mix, although they were all put on there. Instead it became an invocation of Merlin and centred on the mantra that “man is neither sane nor insane”. In my world all absolutes are suspect, including that one [and this one]. My sounds express this philosophy in a way that words can’t. And nor did Merlin. He used rather his wand which was an ancient theramin.

speaking my language

Yes, mind-blowing track, brillaint overload!!

Definitely feeling the dark magic!

The wind whistles just right!

outstanding surrealism once again, Bill

shapeshifting and mind-melting layers of sound..voices and the drums on this are hypnotic

mystical stirring of the magical porridge pot of secret powers!
Ha! I love the idea of magic cauldron full of porridge - porridge laced with hallucinogens, perhaps - voodoo soup - romany soup

Sounds like a portal here - to another dimension
There's a trance like thing with the Merlinic invocation - Merlin transcends dimensions - he dances across them

sweet and fractured invocation
Yes - it is not the invocation that comes down from an altar; it is rather the invocation that bubbles up from the intoxication of nature herself, from the ground, the caverns, the streams

the articulate babel of a dream
: Yes - this piece closely mirrors a a half-glimpsed dream experience

there's a slow shuffle under all of this. Underground.
yeah - rare for me to keep the same groove going throughout, but it is not too overt, subterranean, as you say - like slow lava at the Earth's cold core
:
i'm loving that twangy thing, was from the outset.
Yeah - there's one whole track throughout of Strat twangs [secret - contact mic on the springs in the trem chamber] - also lots bass twang, as mentioned - I've always loved the way a double bass has loads of string rattle

almost an upright bass approach
well noted - that a contact mic on my 5 string bass, mixed with pick up sound

the crystallized forest.
This is where merlin hangs out!

Love the sounds !

lyrics

Merlin Staggers

Merlin staggers ‘cross
Forest – woollen cape catches on
Brambles – Star & Moon designs:
Hooded cape with Staff,
Gnarled, marked with Ogham glyphs:
Grey beard, fulsome,
He roars toward the
Glowing moon which capers ‘bove
The canopies of twisted branches ...
Halo.

Spells rend the night air,
Synchronicities are
Brought to bear
And curses & blessings enfold,
Enshatter in One.

As above, so below.

The god & the devil are One
And the Same.
Man is neither sane nor insane.
Life is neither victory nor defeat.
There is only magic.
There is no life,
But magic.
