Psychotic intensity!
Slide destruction - my main model for that is Blackmore at the end of Hard Lovin' man on In Rock!

Huge, crashing, melting sounds!
I like sounds that continually shift - I use slide a lot for that - I must admit though that the gong was sampled!

Slide can add so many emotive qualities that human hands themselves can't always execute. Very powerful tool, especially when the one wielding it is highly competent and skilled!
yes! I was thinking of ripping the frets off of a guitar to make it fretless, and then looked at all the work of making the unfretted neck as smooth and hard as glass ... wait a minute ... I've got bottleneck, I don't need to do that!
Ha, had a buddy of mine try that with a bass... And he destroyed it! Much less invasive technique to get that sound! But a fretless guitar would be insane!

Bill love the soundscape you have here... kind of gives off a post apocalyptic vibe to me, like looking at the world in ruins kind of thing. Very cool and great production work!

Almost entered recorder territory there for a second, the whistle was real.
now that you mention it, yeah! what happened to my school recorder - there it is! I put the guitar line up in pitch which altered the timbre, making it whistle-like, Another one of the mysteries of sound; how altering the pitch of a given has a huge impact on tone. Some sounds you take up or down and they sound better - they have found their optimum pitch level. Of course, sometimes, as here, you alter the pitch to tighten and then the sound.
Yep. And sometimes it's one damn note.

The descending spaceship here really fits. Without it, Sun Ra would be lost!
I'm digging Sun Ra so much more now. Before that his catalogue felt so vast to me that I didn't set foot ... now, I actually think he is more important than Miles. That descent ... so many times I try and draw out a downward slide slower and slower ... there must be record - the slowest downward glissando ever recorded ...
Yea, it's a case of with people with catalogs like that the key is to just dive in. Don't worry about where! And no idea, that's the sort of thing we'd track but..the record books, not so sure.

The contact mic percussion makes this all work!
I had been thinking of how in string quartets they make percussive sounds with the edge of the bow, pizzicato etc., - ye gods, the string quartet is the absolute model for these kinds of things, even if it doesn't sound like it!
Yea, I get that - the joke is that one of my favorite dudes to play with in the past was a Chicago Symphony Orchestra cello player - he'd want to do *anything* but scripted music, and would just go out there. I wish I could have bottled him!

I gave this 2 listens yesterday, lying in the baking Italian sun. It revolved my brain. It displaced consciousness. You do incredible things with the guitar. Reminds us all of what the instrument could do.
- sounds can have such potent effects - sometimes immediately and other times subliminally ... consciousness is such a thin sheen though ... a fragile shell ... the ability of sounds to alter consciousness reminds us of this. Appreciate what you say about my guitar sounds - it is just little by little, picking up a new sound here, a different sound there ...

i actually found this to be quite consonant.
I thought about the consonance on this as I mixed it. I just improvised in layers, and was surprised how all the parts [nearly] moved up or down to consonant intervals. Usually in free improv one goes to dissonance more often than not. It was that consonance which led me to envisage a cosmic ferry man ... somehow

: It all works and flies, if you layer it right. Don't ask me how or why!

nice description - that is my Epiphone SG Special which has heavy tapewound strings and high action for slide. It is slide played with an Ebow

Let's ask Mr Freud ... no it is a serious point ... our creations tend to reflect our natures, or our shadow selves ... welcome to my shadow play
I'm right up shit creek then. Most of my songs have turned out as weird as this :-P
